The People’s Resource Development Association (PRDA) originated from the Local Youth Club, ‘The Ishok Makha Young Development Club (IMYDC) which was formed by some like-minded and social services-oriented local leaders on 13th November, 1988 with some immediate specific aims to cater for sustainable livelihood and proper settlement for the flood affected victims of Ishok areas with cordial collaboration of the concerned govt. agencies. The flood ,due to the construction of Ithai Dam blocking 3 (three) main rivers ,had submerged about 30,000 hectres of cultivable and inhabited areas of land. Many villages had been displaced without any compensation. As a result of the flood, many inhabitants had been deprived of their livelihood supports and moreover epidemic diseases occurred in the contaminated flood. In the midst of the then critical situation, some of the selfless local leaders dared to come forward to battle against the situation for the welfare of the people. The second primary aim of the then club was to provide proper orientation and awareness for the youngsters for their all-round development through Games & Sports, Vocational Training , Health Awareness and Leadership Training Programme.
With the persistent efforts and selfless services of the pioneers of the then Club, a General Body Meeting was held on 31st October, 1995 to upgrade the status of the Club to a District Level NGO. Mr. Longjam Suranjoy Singh, one of the pioneers, proposed in the meeting to rename the Club as The People’s Resource Development Association (PRDA).
